40 Parole Difficili da Pronunciare che Probabilmente stai Sbagliando

Conosciamo tutti la sensazione imbarazzante di scoprire di aver pronunciato male una parola per anni. D'altra parte, alcune parole sono così comunemente pronunciate male che la pronuncia "corretta" suona decisamente strana.

Non sentirti in colpa se hai pronunciato male alcune di queste parole difficili. Una lingua viva come l'inglese si evolve e prospera proprio perché parlata tutti i giorni. Alcune persone scelgono di aderire a rigide regole di grammatica e pronuncia (note come prescrizione linguistica) e si compiacciono della precisione della grammatica e del vocabolario inglese. Altri preferiscono l'approccio della linguistica descrittiva, che non applica giudizi come "corretto" o "sbagliato", ma guarda invece a come viene effettivamente utilizzata la lingua. In altre parole, finché le persone possono capirti, stai usando con successo il linguaggio per il suo scopo principale: la comunicazione.

What it means: a person or thing that characterizes a whole category to which it belongs

What it means: to follow or support an idea or theory as a cause

What it means: a strong coffee of Italian origin, made by forcing hot water through finely-ground coffee beans

What it means: foolish, inane; devoid of intelligence

What it means: slow to react, not showing emotion; calm and composed


28. Protean

What it means: assuming various forms; changeable in shape, as an amoeba

What it means: relating to a child or childhood; immature, foolish
