Jet lag

Synonyms: tiredness, difficulty concentrating, trouble sleeping, etc.

  • Part of Speech: noun
  • Definition: a temporary disruption of the body's normal biological rhythms after high-speed air travel through several time zones

"Jet lag", also known as desynchronosis, is the feeling of fatigue and confusion that many people experience after traveling across multiple time zones quickly, typically by airplane. This temporary disorder occurs because the body's internal clock, or circadian rhythm, is out of sync with the local time of the destination.

For example, imagine flying from New York to London and arriving in the morning. Even though it's 9 AM in London, your body might still feel like it's 4 AM. This mismatch can make you feel groggy and disoriented.

Here are some examples of "jet lag" in sentences:

  1. After her long flight from Tokyo to Paris, Maria felt severe jet lag and couldn't focus on her meeting.
  2. To minimize jet lag, it's helpful to adjust your sleep schedule a few days before you travel.
  3. Despite the excitement of his vacation, Mark's jet lag made the first two days in Sydney quite challenging.
  4. She struggled with jet lag after her trip to Australia, waking up in the middle of the night for a week.

Understanding "jet lag" and planning for it can help make international travel more comfortable and enjoyable.
